The Aircon Servicing Industry through out Asia has been plagued with a lot of mis-information as part of the marketing strategy of the sector to get to the real meaty profits - namely chemical cleaning and major repairs. As a result, there has been quite a few myths created about what is indeed the correct and suitable method of cleaning our home aircons, in particular, for the split units and window casement units. The purpose of publishing this website is to set the record straight for us consumers who have might have been misled for years, and paying the high cost of ownship for our aircons both at home and in the office.
I have finally found it....the product name is AIRCONcare and its literally aircon chemical cleaning made simple. So simple in fact 15 mins is all it takes to your aircon unit a thorough wash down.
Before we get to the cleaning of aircons, it is important for us to have some idea how they work. It is actually not as difficult as you might think. Below is a video showing you the basic concept of how aircons work.
So how does an Aircon really cool the room?
Refrigeration cycle of the Aircon
In the refrigeration cycle, a heat pump transfers heat from a lower temperature heat source into a higher temperature heat sink. Heat would naturally flow in the opposite direction. This is the most common type of air conditioning. A refrigerator works in much the same way, as it pumps the heat out of the interior into the room in which it stands.
Cooling Coil Build Up in FCU
As air flows through the aircon, it carries dust, fibers, and dead skin cells from our bodies. On the surface of these cells are the oils from our skin which when come into contact with water, forms this sticky sludge which clings onto the surface of the cooling fins. Over time, bacteria will start to grow and feed on these dead cells. Their secretion will form this bio slime or biofilm which insulates the coils from the airflow. In sever cases, they will even clog the air passages over the cooling fins all together. This is the real challenge that aircon servicemen are up against. Their present solution is a really hostile cleaning system which is either strong alkaline based or strong acid based cleaning solution which explains why they need to dismantle the entire cooling coil to carry out this extreme cleaning safely. (See conventional chemical cleaning) But this is by far the most costly and labour intensive way to effectively clean your aircon FCU. Furthermore, there is a certain amount of damage that will occur with every clean. What you really need is an effective chemical solution that is strong enough to remove the slime and kill the bacteria without harming the AC components. This way you can effectively wash the ac unit directly on the wall without the need to tear down the entire coil for chemical cleaning. Find a solution that is tested and certified for this purpose. If your aircon servicemen have such a product, make sure they are using the right chemicals that are certified to meet this criteria. What most servicemen do to save money and reduce overhead is to dilute the alkaline or acid wash to wash this way. The strong chemicals if not washed away properly will cause undue corrosion in your aircon FCU's in no time. The video to the right shows what a proper cleaning system would look like and how simple it is to even do it yourself with the need to wait for an AC serviceman. This is system is by far the most comprehensive and effective system I have found so far. It will do miracles for you in up keeping your AC system. Not only do they have a unique nozzle spray for the cleaning job, they even sell a wash bag for the aircon so that you can wash the FCU yourself like a pro. Read on to find out how having the aircon wash bag gives you the ability to DIY what the aircon serviceman should be doing for you with every servicing.
Cleaning The Fan Coil Unit (FCU)
The Fan Coil Unit consists of the cylindrical blower and the Cooling Coils stacked up above it. The purpose of the blower is to pull air through the cooling coils to remove heat from the air flowing thru the coiling fins on the cooling coils. It is the cleaning of these fins that is the greatest challenge.
This Video Shows the Easiest Way to Clean and Maintain the Air Conditioner Effectively ( Aircon FCU) to get it cold in 15 mins without the need of waiting for an aircon serviceman
You should look for a properly certified and tested cleaning product for this purpose, one strong enough to do the job but safe enough for you to use at home. The product airconcare has all these elements. It is in fact the product used in the video above. Go check it out! Most aircon servicemen use very strong and harmful chemicals that are only meant to be used by properly trained personnel. If you happen to get your hands on these products, be very careful! But using airconcare is how you can be sure you can get the job done properly and safely.
FCU AirFlow Explained - what to clean and why
Warm air from the room is drawn into the cooling coils by the spinning rotor fan blades. The warm air is cooled as it comes into contact with the cold metal coils. This is how air in the room is cooled by the aircon. It's that simple!
